Scalar radiation from chameleon-shielded regions.
I study the profile of the chameleon field around a radially pulsating mass. Focusing on the case in which the background (static) chameleon profile exhibits a thin shell, I add small perturbations to the source in the form of time-dependent radial pulsations. It is found that the chameleon field inherits a time dependence and there is a resultant scalar radiation from the region of the source....
متن کاملBrans-Dicke Scalar Field as a Chameleon
In this paper it is shown that in Brans Dicke theory, if one considers a non-minimal coupling between the matter and the scalar field, it can give rise to a late time accelerated expansion for the universe preceded by a decelerated expansion for very high values of the Brans Dicke parameter ω.
متن کاملNew Regions for a Chameleon to Hide
We show that inclusion of an extremely small quartic coupling constant in the potential for a nearly massless scalar field greatly increases the experimentally allowed region for the mass term and the coupling of the field to matter.
متن کاملRadiation from a moving scalar source.
We study classical radiation and quantum bremsstrahlung effect of a moving point scalar source. Our classical analysis provides another example of resolving a well-known apparent paradox, that of whether a constantly accelerating source radiates or not. Quantum mechanically, we show that for a scalar source with arbitrary motion, the tree level emission rate of scalar particles in the inertial ...
متن کاملStrongly coupled chameleon fields: new horizons in scalar field theory.
We show that, as a result of nonlinear self-interactions, scalar field theories that couple to matter much more strongly than gravity are not only viable but could well be detected by a number of future experiments provided that they are properly designed to do so.
